When looking for unusual pieces, do not discount something that has been put out for the trash man to take.  It would be wise to go to the front door and ask if you ay take the item that has been discarded.  I retrieved an arm chair that looked as if it could never be restored.  I restored it, and the chair is a favorite of my client to this day.  What is someone else's trash can be your treasure.

Instead of using a standard seating arrangement comprised of sofa's and chairs, why not think out of the box and place four or six club chairs around a large round cocktail table.

Another, out of the box, seating arrangement to consider might be two benches or backed benches with four chairs around a square dining room table, rather than traditional seating.  You might consider four exposed wood chairs with two fully upholstered host and hostess chairs for seating around a dining room table.

Check unfinished furniture stores for chests and tables.  Leave an unfinished piece in its unfinished statre and place a clear coat of flat varnish on it.  How about mixing an unfinished piece with two period chairs.

There are several duos tht work every time and with any style  Accent tables, ottomans, or armchairs can be coupled to form such duo combinations.

When you desire a fresh look or a seasonal change, don't discount slipcovers.  The investment you will make will be close to the price you will pay for new furniture, but keep in mind you now have tow looks - the original upholstery and the new slip covers.

Pillows, pillows, and more pillows.  They are the ultimate accessory that makes a strong decorating statement; and pillows are a cost effective decorating accessory.

Using a neutral color palette can provide you with a sophisticated yet comfortable look.  Splash the neutral color palette with color.  Your color can be changed quickly and easily and not break the bank.

I want to encourage you to think outside the box.  Your style will become your own.  Be practical, but by all means have FUN!!
